Winter hikes through the Salzkammergut in Austria

Calm lakes, a white landscape and snow-covered woods: when the snow conditions allow it, winter and snowshoe hikes in the landscape of the Salzkammergut are wonderful ways to slow down the body and soul.

You can set off on winter walks directly from the Hotel Krone: stroll along the lake promenade and let the calm of the lake and the mountain panorama work their magic on you.

Easy winter hikes from Mondsee

Otherwise, it's out to the outdoors: among Mondsee locals, the Helenental valley, which you can reach from Hotel Krone without a car, is very popular. From the edge of the town at Blumengeschäft Steininger, you can set off and follow the Zeller Ache. Through idyllic forest paths and along the roaring river, you will reach the Erlachmühle. Depending on time, mood and condition, you can then hike further up the Gaisberg from here. There, the Panoramagasthof Leidingerhof will serve you a delicious reinforcement before you make your way back again.

The Irrsberg is another popular hiking and excursion mountain and you can conquer the summit in around an hour. This hike is only suitable with snowshoes! The starting point is at Grossenbauer in Höhenroith. Along the signposted hiking path and via forest and field trails, you can reach a beautiful viewpoint, from where you will be rewarded with a great view of the Irrsee and Wallersee.

Winter and snowshoe hikes for advanced guests

Experienced hikers can hike from Mondsee to the Radstatt Chapel (approx. 8.5km) or to St. Lorenz in the vast landscape beneath the Drachenwand (length of hike: approx. 8km). With alternating views of the Mondsee and the impressive mountains, these hikes will enrich the experience with a great panorama, regardless of the snow conditions.

With deep snow, you should absolutely consider taking snowshoe equipment with you!
