Highlights from the events calendar in the Mondseeland

Mondsee and the Salzkammergut have exciting events to offer all year round, which thrill a vast audience. Browse through the highlights that you can experience on your holiday:

Culture & enjoyment

Mondsee Jedermann

The Salzburg Festival is not the only place where the Jedermann dies on stage year after year.

Mondsee too has its own staging of the play, which is just as steeped in tradition. Since 1922, the Mondsee Jedermann has been performed on the open-air stage in Karlsgarten – in dialect, written by Franz Löser.

The Jedermann in Mondsee is performed several times in July and August every year.

In bad weather, the performance is moved to the Mondsee-Irrsee Palace festival hall.

Wine in the palace

Since 2014, a separate wine trade fair has take place in Mondsee.

In the noble atmosphere of the Mondsee Palace, more than 60 exhibitors, including many top Austrian vintners and wine traders from top European wine-growing regions, present their wines.

Corresponding wine accessories can also be purchased.

Mondsee Music Days

Late in the summer, a one-week long chamber music festival takes place in Mondsee. Each year is dedicated to a certain themed focus from the repertoire of classic chamber music. For the presentation, a contemporary composer, the "composer in residence", is invited to Mondsee. The concerts, where internationally renowned musicians appear, are organised in the Mondsee Palace and Mondsee Basilica.

Mondsee Seefest

The lake promenade is transformed into a colourful events venue at the first weekend in August. Live bands and orchestras from the region, a children's programme, fun park, fireworks ... at Mondsee Seefest, visitors of all ages will be able to have fun and enjoy themselves.

Advent markets in Mondsee & by Lake Wolfgang

The basilica and the Gothic cloister give the traditional Advent market in Mondsee an especially atmospheric ambience. The offer at the stalls is accompanied by a musical framework programme and interactive programme for children.

The traditional Lake Wolfgang Advent is also an experience, located just a few kilometres from Hotel Krone in Mondsee. The atmospherically lit townscapes, the lanterns in the lake, the boat trip and the regional cuisine make the Advent markets by Lake Wolfgang unique in this combination.

Sports events

With its breath-taking landscape, the Mondseeland is practically made for sports events, where numerous participants also come from far and wide.

Mondsee International Half Marathon

The half marathon in Mondsee at the beginning of June is a pleasure for runners, thanks to its pleasantly flat route that promises plenty of views. It is therefore justifiably one of the most popular running events in Upper Austria, in the heart of the wonderful Salzkammergut backdrop.

Mondsee 5-Seen bike marathon

For participants of the bike marathon, the route runs past the largest lakes of the Salzkammergut with Mondsee, Lake Wolfgang, Lake Hallstatt, Traunsee and Attersee – a landscape pleasure, which partly makes up for the effort. With different routes from 25 to 134 kilometres, cyclists of all levels are addressed.
