Water sports on the Mondsee

Sailing, surfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing, rowing in a kayak or canoe, driving a speed boat – the Mondsee makes (almost) everything to do with water sports possible. Why travel to the sea when you can find warm, crystal-clear lakes in Austria's Salzkammergut and on top of that, enjoy a unique natural backdrop?
The town of Mondsee is a hotspot for water sports in the Salzkammergut. Sailing club, waterskiing school, boat rental, rowing club: you will find all these opportunities to do water sports in the immediate vicinity of the Hotel Krone.
Surfing & sailing
Mondsee is home to the largest surfing and sailing school in the German-speaking region, where kitesurfing can also be learned along with the classic surfing and sailing courses. Here, you can purchase the basic licence or BFA Inland Waters or book Cats courses and courses for children and young people.
Almost next door to the sailing school, you will also find the wonderful Alpenseebad Mondsee. The spacious open-air pool offers the longest water slide in the Salzkammergut, in addition to a fun park.
Waterskiing
You can experience a special kick while waterskiing on the Mondsee. In the two waterskiing schools, experts will explain to you the proper way to use the water sports devices. As well as waterskiing, there are also monoskiing, wakeboarding, banana boating or tubing to choose from.
Rowing
Whether by canoe, kayak or classic rowing boat: the Mondsee offers several excellent rowing areas for discovering the special angles of nature, which are hidden from the land. In the Mondsee Sailing School, different boats can be rented out to enjoy the water while rowing.
Diving & snorkling
The Mondsee is home to a fascinating underwater world. In its deepest spot, by the Harnischwand, the lake reaches its deepest point of 68 metres. This is also the location of one of the Mondsee's three diving spots – the two others lie in Kreuzstein and under the Kienbergwand. The neighbouring Attersee is also a popular destination for divers.
Fishing
Fishing in the Mondsee is exclusively allowed from the shore for guests with a fishing permit. You can find out further information from the tourist's office opposite the Hotel Krone.
